in persuit of happyness
Wow I haven't been here since '06. Go me. well I guess it's because nothing much happens in my life. nothing newsworthy at least. I just got back from another 3 month stint in France doing the speaking french thing. It's wierd that I kept with it, ou of all of us I was one of the least likely to do anything with my french and now I have a major in it, finishing at the highest possible level for un.grad. (level 10- go me) and i now charge quite a bit to tutor poor little rich kids in it. It's wierd how life has twisted. I remember trina saying once that she used to tell english teachers that she wanted to be an english teacher and they liked her more for it. It was in yr 10 coz we had Ms Stillman. and I thought there is nothing I would like least than to be a teacher. Let alone an english teacher. Famous last words. (thoughts?) because in 2 short years (My BEd got put on hold for my study abroad unit) thats just 4 semesters I will be and english teacher. and whats scarier I will be a French teacher. I will become MADAME. the worse thing is I ENJOY IT. I know that I'm nt the kind of person who has known her lifes calling since the get-go, but now I am fully immersed in it. I know this is exactly what I was meant to study, meant to do with my life. And for once I can honestly say that i am happy. Happy with my life, happy with my situation (happily single - men would just tie me down and cut down trvel ops) and happy in the direction I am taking. I will touch wood even though I'm not superstitous. And wish everyone the same happiness that i have found- though it is more an inner contentment, and with that a self-peace. Take care and my email hasn't changed. Sarah Current Mood: peacefulCurrent Music: Renan Luce- Les voisins | | Wednesday, January 24th, 2007 | | 7:43 am |
so back to quasi-normality (yeah i just wantwed to use quasi in a sentence) and i'm bored already. i cant wait to get back to the uni grindstone...though i only have 6 contact hours. and i get to study "possum magic", you know the mem fox picture book, as well as "where the wild things are", i cant read that book without thinking about the simpsons episode with the stamp museum . talk about the best course ever. and stolen from katerin i think: You know the Bible 100%! Wow! You are awesome! You are a true Biblical scholar, not just a hearer but a personal reader! The books, the characters, the events, the verses - you know it all! You are fantastic!

good bye united kingdom
so the time has come for me to return down under. it is really quite distressing. i have long flights, but we get a 9 day stop-over in hong kong for the last minute shopping ideas... so the best things about britain are actually quite short. i found the people cold and narrowminded, the weather unfriendly and london down right smelly. why couldn't all the cool stuff have been somewhere more charitable? anyway the best things are: 1 MUSIC, anyone who hasn't been blessed enough to be exposed to the british rock scene have led a boring shallow life. ive only been here 2 weeks and im in love. am determined to educate australia in the ways of the fratellis, the kooks and the killers. (though i highly susoect someone has beat me to the last two). the fratellis has written a perfect example of a modern love ballad, which is so full of one-liners that these guys must have no problem picking up, if you catch my drift... 2. "old stuff", im a sucker for old buildings and castles, much to the greivance of my sister. i have been scampering across the british countryside armed with jane austen and the bbc guide to old houses...as well as the odd royal visit. i want to live at windsor castle...if only william wasn't taken... 3. philosophical debates. ok so the britons tend to think they know all on everything. i have had quite an enjoyable time pointing out the error in their ways. (even wrote an email to the british museum pointing out that australia was discovered well before the arrival of captain cook in 1770, they had a sign showing the "history of money" and in 1770 australia was "first discovered". that really annoyed me, since people would go away from the british museum believing everything it says since its the british museum - so i told them...they told me they would change it after christmas...) 4. THE ASHES: how much fun the tauting of the british has provided... ok so home soon. behave yourselves tomorrow. sara Current Music: chelsea dagger - the fratellis | | Thursday, December 21st, 2006 | | 10:52 am |

ok so its about time i posted again. im back with the folks in england. except for ther weather, im having a blast, stuck in the small country town in the middle of nowhere. its great. but then im on holidays, no job no responsibility etc. already i think ive found a job as a canteen lady $18 an hour 10 hours a week min, plus the youth allowance i recieve. hooray the gov. accepted my app. for youth allowance and i got a payout of 3,500 since it took them so long to say yes. i no longer feel as poor as i actually am! all of that money is already spent bu the way. stupid car insurance. but i can breath a little easier, and the folks are less on my back about starting work straight off. hooray. for some reason everything is starting to fall into place for me. its a strange feeling everything actually working out. i know i should be cautious, that it will probably bite me in the butt one of these days but im a reckless teen for 1 day more and will continue to milk it for all its worth. i know i dont celebrate the whole birthday thing, but im kind of excited for saturday. which gets me down to another coincidence. my mother turned 20 in london. i will turn 20 in london on saturday. my mother got her licence feb 10, so did i. were the same size, for now. and due to physical symetry pewople KNOW we're related. ok so thats wierdness enough. keep safe. love from me. and i didnt forget english! man im a useless lj person, i know this you know this so we can just move on... anywya vichy is much the same, only my wardrobe has changed to include the ever fashionable longjohns, i know i have become the fashion icon of our age, and guess what, even with the longjohns i am freezing over here. its not even that cold 10° most mornings. i dont know what it is, i think its because my brain says its autumn where my body thinks its spring. quite bizaar.anyway if anyone is interested in the brain numbing work weve been doing ill post some...with translation of course... write a peom to an object in 5 minutes became: l'ode au stylo Tu es petit mais fort. Tu peux blesser les autres et me sauve du mal. Tu voyages avec moi toujours dans ma main ou mon sac. avec toi, je peux écrire, dessiner, créer, composer quelque chose qui peut exister toujours. Tu me donnes joie et puissance sans limite pour toute ta vie, mais quand tu es mort ma tristesse est très forte. ode to a pen you are small but strong you can hurt others and save me from evil you always travel with me, in my hand or my bag with you, i can write, draw, create, compose anything that will exist forever you give me joy and unlimited power for your enitre life but when you die my sadness is very strong
A cet instant il a eu de nouveau de l'espoire. the door was open, so, he entered with sadness because he no longer had his freedom. he started to cry, he was sincerely sorry and not only because he was in prison, but also because he was there through injustice. the more he thought of it, the more his pain increased. he looked at his new "home". it was entirely grey and there was one window with bars. also there was a bed, but nothing else so he sat on the ground and started to pray to a god in which he had never before believed in. he asked for someone to come and save him, but it was too late as everyone had abandonned him. he sobbed and banged on the door, but with no response. at that moment a white bird sat at the window through the bars, therefore he supposed that god had heard his prayers. at that instant he had new hope.
now that is really hard to do in 10 minutes without a dictionary and with minimum errors, i had 2 errors due to masculin/feminin, so its not too serious, try it and see, its a good exercise... | | Monday, October 2nd, 2006 | | 12:48 pm |
i stole this from katherine its pretty close i reckon... The Mastermind You scored 0% I to E, 36% N to S, 61% F to T, and 42% J to P! You are more introverted than extroverted. You are more intuitive than observant, you are more thinking based than feeling based, and you prefer to have a plan rather than leaving things to chance. Your type is best described by the word "mastermind", which belongs to the larger group called rationals. Only 1% of the population shares your type. You are very strong willed and self-confident. You can hardly rest until you have things settled. You will only adopt ideas and rules if they make sense. You are a great brainstormer and often come up with creative solutions to difficult problems. You are open to new concepts, and often actively seek them out.< As a romantic partner, you can be both fascinating yet demanding. You are not apt to express your emotions, leaving your partner wondering where they are with you. You strongly dislike repeating yourself or listening to the disorganized process of sorting through emotional conflicts. You see your own commitments as self-evident and don't see why you need to repeat something already expressed. You have the most difficulty in admitting your vulnerabilities. You feel the most appreciated when your partner admires the quality of your innovations and when they listen respectfully to your ideas and advice. livejournal isnt too happy with me at the moment, since it thought i was in aus when my comp said i was in europe. so if you really want to read what i had to say youll have to go to my page and scrolldown through the wacked up entries, as none appeared on you friends pages, except switzerland for some reson. i hope this one works so youll be able to read the aformentioned unfo. also my spelling is screwed because im using a french keyboard, sorry. in other news, i have no other news; i spoke to an old ww2 vet on the bus the other day, we were talking about how vichy didnt co op with the nazis when the rest of france did, and you know what he said: (add godfathery type voice here) but we coopperated with the americans... ive been thinking alot about that. and the boy who died in the accident. i went to his grave, his name was philip marc. | | Thursday, September 21st, 2006 | | 2:21 pm |
hi ya chicki-dees., i'm in switzerland. they speak a wierd combo of french and german here, which is very bizaar. yesterday we were in vienna, and before that venice, which was the last place i actually liked. greece was nice because they had normal food. i never realised how much greek we actually eat until i was deprived of normal food all through france and italy. italian bread is disgusting, but even their tinned pasta tastes so good i dont blame people moving to italy to eat it. i love pasta. everyone was complaining having to eat pasta everyday, but i could never get enough. lunch and dinner for 8 days isn't exactly healthy tho. anyway now im in switzerland and it is super expensive. the dollar is almost even with the swiss franc but everything costs twice as much. i got a swiss army knife (just a little one) and had it engraved for about $15 aud which is a bargain by swiss standards. just to buy a post card is $1 aud so no postcards for anyone from switzerland. tho i still havent sent the stuff from germany back in july! did the whole sound of music thing in salzburg, even asked a nun 'how do you solve a problem like maria?" but she didnt understand me. i think im partly glad of that. no tv here is in english (sometimes we get cnn, but rarely) so im resorting to watching cartoons which are slightly easier to follow. i watch johnny english in french yesterday, and the wizard of oz in spanish. all the songs were in english so we had a bit of a sing-a-long. anyway power is going so take care sara | | Friday, September 15th, 2006 | | 4:48 pm |
things i have learned...
1. never buy a renault. they crumble, little renault hits little renault at no more than 30 km, the result? two write offs...renaults takes on moto result? two write offs, and 1 death. passenger on moto wasnt wearing a helmet :. head trauma = death. and SAMUs arent ambulances, they more like those MICA cars/ ambulance thingos we have, theres normal ambulances here too, their colourful. each hospital gets a different colour and vichy's where they all live so we get to see them all.... 2 i could live in france. easily. people are nice french tv isnt so hard to understand... 3. waiting for godot is wierd in any language. though i must say it makes a little more sense in french... french lit has been canceled due to 4 out of 6 students leaving, so now im in grammar with a guy who has attached himself to me...he smells like cigarettes and i dont like it very much. theres a saudi arabian chemical engineer in my class, and when he was absent on fri (sept 8) and then again on mon (sept 11) i got very worried. thats not very nice of me i suppose... to think a guy in my class who aspires to be a pilot and happens to be a chamical engineer in an arabic country is a terrorist. but what would you have done? it was a worrying circumstance, i watch the news to make sure he hadnt blown up the eiffel tower or something...im a bad person, but thats what society has created! i cant think of anyhting else... sarah | | Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 | | 6:15 pm |
all mourn the crocodile hunter
crikey he's dead, it even made the news here, in provincial france. unbeleavable. ok now before you bag my newly depleated english you have to remember that ive been speaking, working, thinking etc, in nothing but french for 2 weeks now. and it is damn tiring. im ready to just lay down and sleep for the rest of my life. even with a routine ive never felt worse, just mentally and physically exhausted. tonight im moving my bed around. im sleeping east-west, and i normally sleep north-south, so that might help a little...though six hours of french grammar a day doesn't help.i cant wait to see my parents just to hear english...it will be wonderful. anyway im sitting here locked out of the house waiting for my housemate to come home, but as i believe shes at work i may as well pitch a tent for the next 5 hours..... and ive run out of power. bises sarah | | Saturday, July 29th, 2006 | | 11:42 am |
la vie en rose is the most beautiful song in the world
i only have 7 mins so this will be quick. im in paris, loving it. yesterday saw the louvre, versailles and notre dame, we see the eiffle tower everyday, but today were going up close. could live here very easily, could even hold off eating dinner til 9pm. anyway paris us beautiful, theres a big summer festival on so everyone is sunbathing by the river. its kinda wierd. anyway out of time, so ill try and get on again soon. bises sarah | | Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 | | 7:57 pm |
hi guys nothing much has changed between yesterday and today. we saw berlin this morning, you know the wall the reichstag, checkpoint charlie etc. actually we got a passport stamp at checkpoint charlie, my sister got 2, an entry and an exit of west berlin, i only got an entry because i only had 0,60 euro for a 'tip'. so now we're in erfurt (between berlin and frankfurt) which has a midsummers nights dream playing accross the road in an old church ruin. i can see it from my beroom window so i wont pay the 12 euro entrance fee. i feel a bit bad, but its in german so i wont understamd 12 euro's worth of things anyway! the bargain has to be our accom for the next 4 days. paris (montparnasse if you wanted to look for it) 4 star non-smoking hotel (you know how hard they are to find in paris) 39 euro per room per night. and the room is a twin with my sister, so really its costing me 19,50 euro a night! australia could learn from germany: 1. german 2. McCroissants at Mcdonalds for breakfast. i hate McDonalds breakfasts, because its all bacon and fake tasting egg, but McCroissants are FANTASTIC! toasted ham and cheese or plain (you can put jam and stuff on it) for 1 euro. 3. cheap food (i mean really cheap, even after the conversion rates it is still cheaper than home.) 4. tilt windows. best idea ever. 5. autobahns. best thing in the world. cruising at 160km/h. germany could learn from australia: 1. AIR CONDITIONING!!!! no-one is airconditioned. wierdo's. they all complain about the heat but don't think to do anything about it. 2. vegetable meatloaf is not a real food. imagine vegetables (brocolli, carrot, cauliflower etc) mixed with jelly and set (to about the size of a loaf of bread) then sliced like luncheon meat. not normal, trust me. 3. roadworks. in australia most roadworks on freeways are done at night to avoid disrupting the traffic. in germany they just close 2 lanes of the autobahn (3 lanes wide) so all the traffic is forced into one lane and it takes you 1 hr to move 5 kms. not good. especially for the ferrari a few car ahead. the moment we were free he zoomed off like there was no tomorrow. 4. english, most germans speack passable english anyway. okay thats alli can think of. be safe sarah Current Mood: excitedCurrent Music: kylie minogue, they love her here. | | Tuesday, July 25th, 2006 | | 7:50 pm |
berlin smells
hello!!! i'm in germany, and its hot. its beautiful here. but then i said that last time. down south is better than up north (where i am now. i'm in berlin) because the south has the austrian mountains, and everywhere you look it is green and the mountains are in the background and you have what i like to call 'sound of music moments' because you feel like running down the hill and singing the hills are alive at the top of your lungs! in the south we stayed in a ski resort town called fussen, which was only 5 minutes away from the border and 15 from a place called neichwenstein's castle. that castle is the one disney based their castle on, and when you see the picture's you'll understand why. it is stunning. next we went to munchen (or munich to us normal people) and stayed in dachau, where we went to the concentration camp. its preety eerie there despite half the buildings being missing. the crematorium and gas chambers are still there, and there's a sign just before you go into the gas chambers which says dont forget to wash your hands (they were disguised as showers). it was a bit bizaar. buchenwald (near belin) is apparently worse but we convinced dad we were disturbed enough from dachau and so we wont be going. after that we went back to frankfurt for a day and now we're in berlin. which is smelly and dirty and horrible. i'm glad we're only here for one night! we went to the pergamon museun today and saw the walls and gate from babylon, and stuff from assyria. so that was pretty cool. tomorrow, after a sightseeing tour of berlin to see checkpoint charlie and bits of the wall etc. we start heading back to frankfurt so we can get on a plane for paris. which i'm looking forward to. then we get on this bustrip. so i don't know when i'll get on again. until then be safe and behave yourselves love sarah ps. i have a tan. hehehe | | Tuesday, July 18th, 2006 | | 4:42 pm |
hello all from sunny germyny (hehehe)
hello all, sorry about my lack of contact. japans internet was painful. so i'm in germany at the moment. in frankfurt, or bad hamburg to be a bit more exact. and while your all freezing your butts off it is sunny and clear and a beautiful 30 degrees! i think if i spoke german i could move here. anyway, japan was like a sauna. the day we went to mount fuji (fuji-san) it was 33 degees at 8am. the top that day was 39 and the humidity was unbearable. we didn't do much in tokyo, we went to disneyland (a copy of america's) and disneySEA which only had about 1/2 a dozen rides. but it was cool there. everything had a water theme so we got wet as often as we could. we also went to shinjuku which is a big electronic district and is kindof wierd, or should i say the people are kindof wierd. anyway tokyo was a bit of a letdown and the flight to germany was long and very uncomfortable but bad hamburg is beautiful. we went though a palace today which was built by count freidrich II (who later became the prince of hamburg) and then became the summer palace of keiser wilhem 2 until 1918. it was stunning, half of the furniture was 400 years old and had a million secret compartements . um i dont have time to think of much more. other than all the paper towels and things are made by tork here so i have been getting a bit homesick for the deli. hello deli people. and i also wish i had a lacey here to speak german for me. its been a bit tricky. anyway time's up hopefully speak soon | | Wednesday, May 31st, 2006 | | 11:42 am |
Okay so I’m a lazy git. Not really just swamped. After Monday tho I will be a free woman! except for 1 exam, but that’s no biggie. So kathrine’s been nudging me for donkeys and I have a beautiful thing called no internet at home, so sorry. Okay news time: I’m off on july 10!!! That’s 40 days!!! Hooray!!! First to Tokyo then to frankfurt then paris. An around the world ticket was cheaper than the direct a week later (like $500 cheaper!) so that’s what we’re doing. Which means I wont see you guys until the new year unless we do something…so… choose a day for stuff, picnic or movies or bumming. School holidays are june 19-july 2, so I was thinking: Mon june 19 Wed june 21 Mon june 26 Wed june 28 I work every other day, (well I work Mondays until 10 am) so put your bids in, as well as preferred activity. cheers and here’s this thing: 1. when you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? (list all, and why) a ballerina – I was a girly girl. A fashion designer – still a secret dream A jockey – talk about weird 2. what is something you've always wanted to do, but have always been too afraid to? Be spontaneous 3. what do you think are the most important things to remember in life? (as many as you like) Who you are Who your friends are Blood isn’t always thicker than water 4. do you think one person really can make a difference? Yes. If enough one persons have the same idea at the same time 5. if there was one thing you would like to change about yourself, what would it be? (keeping in mind that any small change could affect the entirety of yourself in other ways) Im happy, I don’t want to mess with that Current Mood: stressed | | Tuesday, April 11th, 2006 | | 12:24 pm |
wink wink nudge nudge
Okay, so katherine’s been nudging me for ages, and my inbox is getting full, so here it is: Hmmm … … No really, I’ll think of something. I got a new laptop. It looks like a box. But it works. And that’s the main thing. I could tell you how muck RAM an MHz etc. but I haven’t the foggiest. So its Tuesday. Tuesday’s a good day. English. Learnt about plot and design. Pretty much a rehash of what everyone knew already. Just like French. I guess that’s a change of thought. Therefore… Change of paragraph/line/etc. new thought new line. Well French is boring. We just got “challenged” by the imparfait. Talk about deja vu. I’m off to france next semester. Its all coming together. I’ll organize something before I leave so we can all get together. I’m staying in Vichy, if you want to get your maps out it’s south-east of Paris. Towards the mountains. Spa capital of France apparently. Go figure. Je departerai en juillet et retournerai en janvier. C’est hypercool, n’est pas? I never thought anyone outside of a textbook said hypercool, but I was wrong.i got a letter from my host family and the girl wrote it, I cracked-up. But until last week of june my spare time is taken up by work. I need money to galavant around Europe. The uni’s giving me $500 which helps. A LOT. I can now afford the flight. So what I save from now on is living expenses and board. I met an irish French teacher last week. She’s from Dublin. I told her about Vingt Minutes. She’d never heard about it. But she’s going to find it for her class. “je m’appelle Michael Fairclough.” Lol. I have a job at my dad’s school teaching the little boys (and soon to be girls) as a teacher’s assistant. Mostly doing conversation. Which is probably a bad idea. Anyway I’m running out of news. And time to do my assignment due tomorrow. Au revoir mes amis. Oh and here’s this thing: Go to Wikipedia and look up your birth day (excluding the year). List one death, two births and two events in your journal, including the year. Deaths 1165 - King Malcolm IV of Scotland births 1934 - Dame Judi Dench British actress 1953 - John Malkovich, American actor events 1793 - New York City's first daily newspaper, the American Minerva, is established by Noah Webster 1897 - Activist Marguerite Durand founds the feminist daily newspaper, La Fronde in Paris oh and my music thingy was jamie Cullum, album:catching tales, song: london skies jamie cullum's on ROVE tonight. hooray. i've missed his concert though : | | Sunday, February 26th, 2006 | | 4:39 pm |
give so they may grow
okay testing theory time, but there will be no eXplanation of what theory is being tested. and on another bright note one of these stupid music things: whatever cd is in your player put it on random (and no taking the cd out for a 'cooler' one!) everyone gets two hints as to what artist/album/song. hint number 1. the bridge (if instrumental just say 'instrumental') hint number 2. the last 2 lines okay so my taste in music is quite far from all yours, esp. the cd in my player at the moment. so take a crack at it... #1 BRIDGE: Nothing is certain except everything you know can change, you worship the sun but now,can you fall for the rain... #2 LAST 2 LINES: Will you let me romanticize the beauty in our London Skies. You know the sunlight always shines behind the clouds of London Skies. go for it, album/artist/song. i'll post what the answer is in a couple of days. sara (uni starts tomorrow. 3 cheers for uni. hip hip HOORAY hip hip HOORAY hip hip HOORAY!) | | Friday, February 24th, 2006 | | 12:26 pm |
okay so while everyone is posting the whole time table thing here we go, read it and weep... monday = 2hrs with 2 hr break tues= 3hrs with 1 hr break wed = 4 hrs thursday and fridays off...woohoo that means MORE WORK not so woohoo but i need money to pay for EUROPE woohoo which means deferring sems 2 not so woohoo anyway i am currently figuring out a tourist guide for our trip of europe starting in Paris and ending in London, at the moment i'm haflway through Paris, next i will tackel the other biggies (madrid, barcelona, pompeii, rome, berlin and thw whirlwind warsaw tour) so any suggesstions would be appreciated. the only rule is it has to be a member of the euro people (EU) because we cant take the car out of it. and we're not going to greece this trip so no sugesstions there. also we are doing the rest of england, scotland, wales and ireland during spring break so if you wanted to give ideas for those bear in mind we are not going in summer and freezing temps is not my idea of a good time! anyway, run out of other news. i'll be back eventually... |
